My Trip to the Evil Empire
On Wednesday I went where few have gone before – inside the walls of the evil PodShow empire. Richard Brewer-Hay came and picked me up at my hotel in Union Square. We went and had lunch with Tom and Jake. I was expecting venom to shoot out of their mouths, but alas, nothing of the sort – they were actually nice guys and fun to be around. It was nice to put some faces to names and hear some of the cool things they’re working on.
After lunch we went into the belly of the beast – PodShow HQ! I met a lot of really cool people who were passionate about what they do and were genuinely enthused to be talking shop with fellow podcasters. Again, I saw no evidence of sacrificial virgins and no blood-stained walls.
Ok, enough with the sarcasm. PodShow has been the punching bag of the podcast space for the last year and a half. Hell, I’ve even had my own frustrations with them from time to time. But, all in all I believe they are a dedicated group of (gasp) mere mortals that really seem to enjoy what they do. The energy in the office was infectious and I found myself wanting to roll up my sleeves and start brainstorming with them. Sure, they’re not perfect, but they’re overworked and in some areas understaffed. The one thing that was obvious to me was that everyone I met seems to know they are part of something revolutionary. That was a cool thing to witness.
Thanks to Richard for taking time out of his day to show me around and let me peek behind the curtain. I have a whole new level of appreciation for what you do.
