American Cliche #171 – We Did It!

This week is a celebration of what we accomplished yesterday as a nation. History was made and it was people like you and me all across this nation that stood up and said “yes we can!” I’m so proud of the message we’ve sent to the world and to each other.

Thank you for indulging me in my passionate politics over the last several months. I know that, at times, you had probably had enough. I appreciate the support and great comments and discussions you sent my way.

I’m going to be taking a few weeks off from doing the regular audio show. I will be on Twitter and Facebook and Qik. I hope you’ll continue to interact with me until I come back to the show.

  5. Scott,

I hope you have a wonderful time on your break, I will miss you terribly and I am sure most of your long time followers will too, you being gone leaves a void on our weekly routines, but also long time followers completely understand that you need time to yourself and your family.

We are all looking forward to seeing you again in the new and revamped American Cliche. :)

And now, to stop my trying to be your fan spokesperson, let me tell you that I hope we can meet up sometime for a beer (Corona, please) and again my best wishes for you and your family, and Brian and his family and we hope to see you real soon.

Congratulations on a new age in America’s leadership.

    :)

I’ve only recently started listening to American Cliche, but I’d like to comment that even though I don’t agree with you on several topics, it’s refreshing to listen to someone who can reasonably argue his case.

As a Norwegian I’m often confronted with logic like “shut up, US-basher! If it weren’t for us you’d all be speaking german!” when I try to I discuss US matters. Whilst we have bad apples like this in all countries, sadly alot of the time they are the ones making the most noise and getting the most notice.

I like your show, it’s in my view both constructive and entertaining, something combined far too rarely these days. Keep up the good work!

As a final note I’d like to congratulate you all on an impressive election and an outcome I’m personally thrilled with. – A Norwegian

I am so happy that as a country we took major strides in the right direction with this past election. I truly believe Barrack Obama will start the process of America earning back its respect and reputation as greatest country on the planet. His victory was such an important moment in our country’s history, I watched the Election coverage on CNN and I have rarely felt prouder to be an American and felt honored to watching history in the making. I also felt a true sense of pride that my home state of Indiana, a state that has been Republican since the 1960′s had voted with its heart and chose Obama, granted it was by the slimmest of majorities, but they still embraced the promise of change.

I currently live in downtown Chicago, about 12 blocks from Grant Park and I could hear cheers from the Obama rally through my open window. It was crazy, people were honking horns in the streets and celebrating. I have witnessed one historical moment in Chicago’s history, a South Side black man became the president. Now if only the Cubs could complete my list of Chicago based miracles in my life time.

I have always truly loved your show and your commentary, I will miss it while you are taking what sounds like a much deserved break. I hope yo come back sooner than later. If not, here’s an early “Happy Holidays” to you.

Scott – I know what you mean about Neal. I am a HUGE GBTV fan (and have since show #1) and I have been following Neal in his latest adventures. The dude has some serious detachment from reality issues. I have questioned continuing to watch their show, but for now have planned to continue.

  9. D – Yeah, the thing that bothers me the most about this situation (besides the fact that Neal said Muslims are evil) is the fact that there has been no backlash on him at all. Where is the outrage by GBTV viewers? How can their viewers continue to support a show that has a producer that is so deranged and hateful?

  10. Man, thank you so much for this message man. Took me right back to the night of nights!
I was born in Russia and lived most of my grown up life in Germany and Scotland.
As I child I used to be so fascinated with the US. You know – McDonalds, Coca Cola, Michael Jackson, etc.
But over time, especially when George W. Bush was “elected”, that lessened more and more and was replaced by shock and exasperation.
And most of the time I tried to speak to Americans about this, it was the usual:
I am right, because I’m American. I don’t have to question anything I do, because I am American. And if they figured out I lived in Germany, then it was typically just “shut up Nazi”.
It was incredible. I was slowly getting to having this image of Americans that many, many of them sort of went to school on weekends and their teachers were their great-grandparents whose memory and knowledge stopped at around 1945.
Yes, America was a key player in defeating Hitler-Germany. But if you’re gonna brag about that, then you have to also accept that if America hadn’t waited to slong to step in, millions of lives would have been saved. Both on the eastern and western front. The fact that Hitler was an evil “genius” who was bent on conquering the world did not magically unveil itself in 1941. They were killing Jews and shipping them off the concentration camps in the 30ies. They invaded Poland 2 years before America stepped in. Not to mention France, etc.
Oh Jesus, I always drift like that… lol
Anyway… What I was gonna say is: With this historic election, the USA have gained a lot of respect from me and many of my peers.
It has proven to me that indeed America was and is again on its way to becoming a true world leader. Not by military force but by showing that a majority of its citizens DON’T judge a man purely on the color of his skin. That they will listen and THEN make up their minds about a person – about their president.
I would have never thought that I would see the day that the USA would have a black president. It’s simply amazing. Even now, most times I think about this, I keep expecting to wake up from a dream.

The last election has proven to me, that America is indeed the land of the free, home of the brave. And I could not be more proud of you guys!

Ah crap, I just noticed I said “man” twice in the first sentence. That just looks stupid, lol. Sorry.
