American Cliche #176

Another fun week of adventures with Emma – she’s not eating. Is that a tooth coming in? Why is she holding her belly? Why isn’t she sleeping? Yikes – this kid stuff can be a challenge! She’s doing better now, but it’s so hard when they can’t tell you what’s wrong.

hey Scott,
We got our kids to like the same music as we do. because they only speak french, we are not afraid that they’ll pickup on the nasty lyrics in some of the song we like. We do filter some songs, but most time, if they like a song, we’ll just let them listen to it. This makes car rides really enjoyable to us (we usually hate kids music).
here is a quick list my kids favorite songs:
The man who sold the world – Nirvana
Vacu Vacu – Radio Radio
Cliche Hot – Radio Radio
The Dope Show- Marilyn Manson
Killing in the name – R.A.T.M. (they want me to play this one on Guitar Hero all the time)
Pretend We’re Dead – L7
and a buch of other french song (not from france, from Québec)
But …
I must admit that we don’t let them bring their favorite music to kinder garden. we are afraid we’ll be judge by other parents.
We did torrent some kids music once but we won’t do it again. We hate that kind of music too much lol.
And i think that is 8 people got arrested, Phelps should go to jail too. it’s because of him they all got in trouble in the first place…
thanx for the great show,
have great week,
and don’t worry about your kid, I’m sure she’ll get to normal soon.
have a great week

hey scott–2 things…
1) it’s awesome that people are getting more rev’d up about politics. but what i can’t believe is that PEOPLE ARE STILL WATCHING AMERICAN IDOL!!! that show just needs to die. there’s nothing more annoying than listen to my coworkers talk first thing tuesday morning about that stuff. drives me crazy! you can tell a lot about people by the kind of shows they watch, and people who enjoy american idol probably think Deal or No Deal is awesome too. ARGH!
2) yeah, i think you were a bit too harsh on the lady who swam the atlantic. it’s not fair to compare it to running a marathon or swimming the english channel. you’d have to compare it to, say, running from Spain to Hong Kong. If someone said they did that, of course we would know that they slept in hotels along the way, and had some sort of protection from the elements. But it would still be an amazing feat, especially if they did it in a relatively short amount of time.
anyways, that’s just what i think. glad the show is back up and running. tell brian we miss him and his schtick!
later. ~jim

Mathieu – We try and get Emma into as music as well. I’d much rather her rocking out to Prince or Radiohead or Van Halen then nursery rhymes all day. It’s a balance though.
JIm – I have never watched American Idol, but I have always cared about politics. Maybe the two are mutually exclusive.
As for the woman who swam the Atlantic, I’m sure I was a bit harsh. I think we are so focused on breaking records in this world and sometimes those records are artificially inflated. Maybe someday someone actually will swim the Atlantic, but they can’t claim to be the first because of these people that did it with caveats.

Scott,
I couldn’t stop laughing at the “Dimitri the Stud” bit on your show, just like I couldn’t stop laughing when I heard it on Glenn Beck last summer. Here is a helpful link, http://www.hollywoodgrind.com/dimitri-the-stud-stalker-identified/, exposing the slimeball.

“Dimitri the Stud” “I’m the one of few men that has nothing wrong with”
Yeah…
But I think the Marijuana case is a classic case of what is right and what is not.
Many presidents have admitted to having smoked this, but they still held their position.

Scott, Dimitri the Stud was maybe the funniest thing I heard all day! Thanks for putting out such a quality show!

Scott,
Dimitri the Stud was totally worth the 4 1/2 minutes! Positively hysterical! No words for that guy…
Swimming the Atlantic… eh. I’m with ya. Nothing seems so amazing once you know the real mechanics of it. Swimming for 8 hours a day in a ball with a resume team at your immediate disposal is not something for headlines.
Thanks for a great show!

I found this on line regarding the Dimitri The Stud voicemails … plus this link, http://www.torontorealmen.com …
These voicemails are part of a viral marketing campaign for a documentary about Dimitri The Lover. I am sure of it because I live in Toronto and both my friend and I were interviewed for the documentary back in July. We were walking down the street and some film crew asked us to see some movie footage of Dimitri talking and give an opinion on camera. You can hear clues in the voicemails that they are staged, such as when he kinda tries not to laugh at certain parts, mentions the film he is working on in another part, and goes way over the top to absurd proportions in the second voicemail. I work at a marketing company and all of my colleagues feel that the way in which these “viral voicemails” were released was meant to create months of notoriety during the lead up to the film. It’s quite brilliant! I can’t wait to see myself on camera!!! Also, I saw Dimitri in person during the filming. He’s very attractive and appeared to be quite charming when chatting with women. One of the production assistants told me that he is a “really nice guy” and quite “harmless”.
