Erika,

Agreed - dating sucks no matter what gender you are. In fact, Kim and I used to say years ago - after a night out watching bar pickups happen to other people - that we didn't want to ever have to go through that again. Unfortunately, here we are. :)

I'm not in any rush to date at this point honestly, but it's interesting to have the conversation with people that have gone/are going through it.

My husband and I were discussing this point and debated which gender has it easier in the dating world post 30s. Of course, I said the men had it easier, that I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up with a younger woman after we separated. And, of course, he disagreed because he feels that women have more of the power when a guy tries to talk to her. Our final conclusion: dating is a pain, no matter the gender! I guess unless you are Robert Duvall (his wife is 40 YEARS younger than him!!!), I'm sure the men have it just as hard as we woman perceive we have it.

I have know some people that have had some success with online dating. The other thing that I haven't seen mentioned is interest, meet up groups. Meetup dot com has many interest groups in many areas of the country. Or maybe there are a few interest groups are in your local paper. I would think that striking up a conversation is easier since you know that you both have at least ONE thing in common.

Jeff - Thanks for your comment. I'm sure all will resolve. Right now there is a lot of uncertainty in my life and that is hard. I'm the kind of person that needs an anchor - whether it be my marriage or career - and I don't have that. I do have Emma though and I'm so grateful for that.

Evenderfunk - yeah freelancing definitely has it's benefits, but I find it stressful. I guess we'll see how it all shakes out.

just finding out you're freelancing now, and how that changes the whole "three-day-weekend" situation... I know exactly what you mean, I'm a freelancer as well, and it's funny how holidays suddenly don't exist anymore :P

on the other hand, you get to organize your own time (even if sometimes it's 12-hour workshifts) and you know, you also allow yourself the occasional "screw everything I'm going to the movies/beach/park/whatever today" day... I've been freelancing for about two and a half years, and I'm not gonna lie, it sometimes gets pretty complicated money-wise, but I still think it's worth it, so good luck with that!

great show, as usual :)
big hug from Mexico

Dating,

Ugh! No advice here. But I was divorced from a wonderful woman around 10 years ago. A very sad event. Dating seemed a loathsome idea. The apprehension, the interview, the end of the date. Aaaak!!!

So Here is what I did... nothing.
I figured that I would let life flow (Thanks LaoTzu).

It wasn't that I was interested in a spiritual resolve.
But the flow worked out well.

Guess what? A very cool woman returned to my life.

My kids call her "Evil step-mom" when they hug talk to her on the phone. Heh heh.

SP–all will resolve. Here is why.

You are an interesting fellow.

Cool?
