This episode comes as sort of a surprise to me. I wrote last week that we didn’t have a sponsor, then overnight I got word of a limited engagement with our friend Leonard Peikoff and here we are. Let’s be clear, this sponsorship only runs until the end of February, so we still have some maneuvering to do to get the show back on track, but we’re grateful for what we’ve got.
Sponsor: Check out the Leonard Peikoff Podcast.

Consistency is an issue.
Scott, I have been a supporter, and would consider being a sponsor, if it were not for a consistency issue. You miss shows, and your following is disappointed You miss a bunch of shows, and w forget.
Think bigger!

Hey Scott,
cool that you’re sorta back
I have a comment on the Super Bowl – since I live in Berlin I have a bit of a tradition in that I don’t stay up until 1 in the morning to see the German dubbed live broadcast (no offence but the German commentators don’t have a clue about american football…) So I do a news blackout in the morning and download the game to watch (without advertising) the next day.
The game itself was pretty ok (i was rooting for the packers) – I’m surprised they pulled it off considering how bad they played in the 3rd quarter.
But the main reason I’m posting this is that I thought the half-time show was the worst piece of crap I have ever seen at a super bowl. It was hard to watch. Oh my god and that horrible horrible rendition with slash – It was just absolute crap… the only thing going for it was the dancers in the tron suits…but even that couldn’t make up for the incredible crappyness of the black eyed peas…
any way keep up the good work

Jeff,
Wow, thanks for your opinion. I could go on and try to explain (again) that this show is about sponsorship. I miss shows because there is no sponsorship. Period.
If you’ve made up your mind I respect that.

Karten,
Thanks for your comment. Lots of people were disappointed in the halftime show. It’s funny because it was the biggest spectacle in Superbowl history I think, but that couldn’t overshadow the lack of substance. I personally dug when Slash came out. I thought Fergie id OK singing GNR. No one is ever going to sound like Axl (not even Axl anymore) so I cut her some slack.

Re: Superbowl
1) Aguilera singing the anthem. Good God. I have never heard anything so ridiculously terrible before. NEWSFLASH Christina: The anthem isn’t about you! (But thanks for beating the Vegas under/over on how long you’d hold the word ‘brave’.)
2) Best ad (imho) goes to Audi: Old Luxury. “Hit ‘em with the Kenny G.” Brilliant.
3) The reading of the Declaration was very well done. Loved it.
Glad you’re kinda sorta back, btw.

Almond,
The Audi as was awesome. Agreed. Just brilliantly executed.
Good to hear from you.

Oh- I just found out about the Chrysler “Imported from Detroit” ad. Audi holds the lead for creativity, but overall, I think I like the Chrysler one most now. It doesn’t have the clean, sharp shots or the perfect direction or anything, but that’s kinda the point. Now I’m having a tough time deciding which ad I like more: Chrysler’s “Imported from Detroit” ad (http://goo.gl/SzLfD) or Jeep’s “The Things We Make, Make Us” ad (http://goo.gl/Wj1gf)?
Both push the same product (American cars) and each essentially does it in the same way, but (imo) the Jeep ad is more of an anthem, a call to action, where the Chrysler one almost has a “we’re still here” feel to it…
Sorry for rambling.

hehe I know scott wanted to know about the ads… Funny that no one seems to care about the game. It’s really actually pretty funny.
That’s why soccer will never ever in a million years make it big in the states. Because you have two 45 minute segments where a sport is played without the possibility for ad breaks. It seems that something like the superbowl is more a commercial happening than a sporting event. Still I really do enjoy watching the game WITHOUT ads….
I’m not hounding on the states – it’s just the way it is.
Take care

nice “engagement” on this post!
I liked the chrysler Eminem add….most of the car ads in general this year were good. better than the other products.

Hi Scott!
Thanks for the show! I have missed them mucho.
As a Packers fan and a Sconni girl (now in MN) I thoroughly enjoyed the Super Bowl =) No matter where I live I will always root for WI teams and I’m so proud of Aaron Rogers.
Not impressed with the halftime show, I can’t believe Slash even agreed to share the stage with Fergie. Shows how much their recorded music is “vocal-shopped” when you see how terrible they sound live.
This was my favorite commercial

Hope all is well on your end! Take care!

Hey Scott,
Re. Jeff’s comment. There is a consistency issue here. He is inconsistent as he says he is a supporter and yet his only support is to attack the show, which he has no intention whatsoever in sponsoring.
Jeff (or is that Jerk, couldn’t tell from your poorly typed post), think bigger. Show us your free podcast.

Hi Scott,
I couldn’t agree more with Tom’s last comment. Jeff needs a reality check. You have put in a huge amount of work over the years producing show after show and people should be grateful for this, not simply expect it from you, like Jeff is demanding.
Any rational person appreciates that you have limited time and a living to earn, so it is more than fine if you miss any number of shows that don’t have sponsorship for.
Ignore this comment from Jeff and don’t take it personally. He’s a fool.

Hmmm…
I really did not mean to anger or annoy.
It was habit to check for AC shows on Tuesday. It was really nice to listen to on a regular basis. Every tuesday had a kind of aural dessert in the afternoon.
Now it is Wednesday, a small adjustment.
But it seemed to become more sparse.
“Rats” I would think when I realized that there was no new show this week.
So I donated a couple of times and bought a shirt.
(People always ask what it means)
The anticipation for Wednesday afternoon began to wane. I started to forget to listen. This is why I had not responded.
That is the disappointment part.
Now I realize that you put in a lot of effort, and applaud it. I wish it was a profitable enough show that we got them daily.
As a marketing guy at a publishing company, I would look at the numbers, and would like the following, but would be concerned about the hiatuses. As you know well, consistency and repetition are cornerstones in advertising.
When I said “Think bigger” it was an attempt (apparently a lame one) to inspire you to keep doing shows to attract sponsors.

one day u will realize that advertising doesn’t actually rule the world.
all social media hypers will one day understand that it’s all bullshit.
but the social media “experts” will never ever admit that…..

Scott
Karsten,
Advertising does rule this business. Do you have a job? Do you get a paycheck or do you go to work everyday for free?
And what the hell does social media have to do with advertising in this case? What is all “bullshit?” Please enlighten us.
